With a two-way adjustable truss rod, a bone nut, planetary-style tuners and a geared fifth string peg, this is a lot of quality for not a lot of money, and it is a very playable novelty banjo. It has an eight-inch head stretched across a modified, hoop-style solid brass tone ring, and puts out a satisfactory tone and volume.
The BG-Mini is a professional banjo and a pint size version of our BG-250F. Many pros have used these in bluegrass performances to the delight of the audience. A rolled brass rod tone ring gives plenty of punch. For kids, this is the ultimate bluegrass banjo.
Open C Tuning
The BG-Mini is tuned to Open C Tuning. CGCEG. When you play the banjo it will sound and play just like a normal banjo with a capo on the 5th fret. You won't have to relearn anything you already know in normal open G tuning, it will just be in the key of C. It will be the same visually and tonally as when you capo a normally Open G tuned banjo to the 5th fret.
Here is a chart for transposing chords in the key of C. Transposing chords will only be necessary when playing with others.

Its scale length is 19-3/4 inches and tunes up to the key of C (CGCEG) with standard gauge strings, so when played in it’s open position (no capo) it feels and sounds as if a capo is used at the fifth fret of a full size banjo.

This is truly a unique product that should find a home in several musical niches. It may be the world's only child-sized fully functional bluegrass banjo and it is way cool. It has a maple neck, a multi-ply maple rim, a bound mahogany fingerboard, and bound mahogany resonator. With a two-way adjustable truss rod, a bone nut, planetary-style tuners and a geared fifth string peg, this is a lot of quality for not a lot of money, and it is a very playable novelty banjo. It has an eight-inch head stretched across a modified, hoop-style solid brass tone ring, and puts out a satisfactory tone and volume. My BG Mini arrived in great condition and it's a little bottler as we say in Australia! As a professional entertainer I don't usually buy an instrument at such a price but as I already have a GoldTone Orange Blossom I hoped that the quality would still be there. And it is!
