The RK-R87 is Gold Plated. These were a limited edition about 10 years ago. It has the design look of the popular RK-80 but it is maple instead of mahogany and is Gold Plated. If this banjo was new and available today its price would be around 2500.00.
I bought it from a customer who bought it new. He said he wasn't playing it much and wanted to sell it. I bought it because I thouhgt it was unique and also because Recording King is no longer making any maple banjos or offer any in Gold Plating.
The Guardian Deluxe hard Case with it is like new and it is the same style as the CG-044JK that come with the new RK-R75 and 76 Elites now.
This banjo is a professional level banjo with the same pot, meaning 3 ply maple rim, one piece flange and flathead tone ring that comes with the RK-R75 76 Elites only the hardware is Gold Plated.
It's a great deal on a Gold Plated banjo which are very hard to come by and non existent now in this price range.
