0 of 0 people found the following review helpfulI spent several months comparing open back banjos and narrowed it down to this one or one made by brand 'D' that cost about twice as much, but was made in USA (a big plus in my book). I also compared brand 'P', brand 'O' (at 3-4 times the price) and some other small shop offerings. I was prepared to get brand 'D', yet my ears kept telling me that this one was as good as or better. After lots of internet listening (no stores near me to try one), I was perplexed. Was this really as good as it sounded on line? I was familiar with Gold Tone, since I bought the CC Carlin (yes, from banjoteacher.com) and was very satisfied. I called Ross and since he sells both models, I asked his advice, figuring it would be a slam-dunk he would recommend to get brand 'D'. Instead, he said there was absolutely no reason to buy Brand D over the High Moon. So I did. Three days later (even during Thanksgiving holiday week), I got it. He was right... it is an incredible banjo and sounds way above its price class. I would have written this review sooner, but wanted to give it a fair trial. The sound? It's a bit deeper and with more sustain than the CC Carlin, probably due to the tone ring. It is a nice complement to the CC Carlin and It makes me sound better than I really am. Enough writing - back to claw-hammering.
