The Gold Tone OB-150EF Orange Blossom is a new model which offers "Pre-war" style at a price anyone can afford. It’s an amazing banjo with authentic tone and at this price I feel it is the best value in bluegrass banjos. Features include a three-ply maple rim and one-piece flange (just like the 1930's originals), a maple neck inlayed in authentic style, a brass flathead tone ring and a smooth satin wood grain finish.
The OB-150EF features the same flathead tone ring used in the more expensive Gold Tone OB-250

24 Fret Scale Advantages
What is amazing on this 24 fret scale is you can play two full octaves, which means you get a high D note on the first string.
Your normal 22 fret banjos can only reach a high C note. Also, the 24 fret scale gives you extra room on the frets which comes
into play especially when playing up the neck. The Gold Tone ML-1 has the 24 fret scale which I play often and it's an easy unnoticeable transition for me.
Tone Improvement with the OB-150EF 24 fret
The tone of the OB-150EF will be fuller. The reason for that is with the extra length the neck has more weight. Neck weight and banjo tone are an underestimated reason for better banjo tone. Most players want a thinner neck, but that can sacrifice tone. With the OB-150EF you have extra weight without changing any of the easier to play neck profile. Another tone characteristic of the 24 fret scale length is the 24 fret length puts slightly more tension on the strings which gives the banjo extra punch. Another advantage is the 24 fret scale can make it easier to user lighter gauge strings without them feeling sloppy.

OB 150 Demo Video PlayList - Ross Nickerson
I visited Gold Tone and had a chance to play the OB 150 over a 3 day span. I think it sounds great. I played a gig with Wayne and Robin Rogers and some of their employees and used this banjo and it performed beautifully. I had no reservations playing it in a professional situation where a pro banjo was needed. It was really comfortable and easy to play too. I had a hard time giving it back.
