The new Gold Star JD Crowe Model GF-100JD has been meticulously perfected with Gold Star Banjos now unveiling this new JD Crowe model GF-100JD professional level 5-string bluegrass banjo. Gold Star has always demanded high standards since the 70's and the GF-100JD is now available for order.
Notes from Ross: The banjo sounds great, and it looks great too. The attention to detail is excellent. It has a noticeably good bottom end, both my set up guy and I noticed that right away. Banjos are inherently bright but banjos that also have balanced tone and a strong voice on the bottom are not as easy to come by. Up the neck the notes were loud and clear too which signifies a good quality tone ring. Just because all flathead tone rings are heavy when they are created, does not mean they are all created equal. A superior tone ring is superior up the neck and a high quality tone ring like this will not lose volume and tone with a capo on.
The GF-100JD has the No Hole Flathead Tone Ring, just like the original.
Gold Star has always made an amazing reproduction of the 1930's Gibson's. Saga Music, the company who manufacturers Gold Star Banjos began in the 1970's and has built a very strong reputation to meticulous quality and all aspects of building a musical instrument of this caliber. There are no other imported instruments that even comes close to having the stable of professional musicians that choose to play Gold Star banjos, Kentucky Mandolins and Blue Ridge Guitars, all made by Saga. Gold Star Banjos are the only banjos not made in the USA that have increased in value over time.
Remember we are talking about a replica that cost 1/3 to 1/4 the price of an American made banjo with the same category of features and tone.
So, if you are not able to afford or not ready to buy an American Made banjo in the category, this is one of the three best import alternatives.
Don’t miss your chance to be a part of the continuing tradition.

Here is an interesting story behind this new GF-100JD JD Crowe Model 5-string Bluegrass Banjo.
In 1980, five musicians went into the Arch Street Studio in Berkeley, CA and Bluegrass recording history was made. “The Bluegrass Album” with Tony Rice, J.D. Crowe, Bobby Hicks, Doyle Lawson and Todd Phillips redefined the direction of the music for the next generation.
The banjo pictured on the cover and recorded on the Bluegrass Album was a prewar RB-3 that has been with Saga for more than 30 years. For the past five years, we have charted a course which has finally resulted in the recreation of that legendary banjo… an instrument that produced some of the finest examples of banjo tone that have ever been recorded.
over the moon
0 of 0 people found the following review helpfulHi Ross, my son Conner got the banjo and he’s over the moon about it! He worked his rear off all summer helping a plumber out to save for it so I know he’s gonna appreciate it for a long time. Thanks so much from the Murphy family!
My Goldstar gf-100jd arrived today and it's all I hoped it would be
0 of 0 people found the following review helpfulThank you very much Ross! My Goldstar gf-100jd arrived today and it's all I hoped it would be. The setup is perfect and the low D has just the growl I was looking for. I'm probably going to sign up for your platinum lessons also, maybe an old dog can learn some new tricks.
it is awesome!

0 of 0 people found the following review helpfulI have owned a Goldstar before so I was expecting a good banjo but I was blown away by this model! I was thinking I could order a Huber tonering if I wasn’t happy with the sound but this is definitely a keeper. The quality and setup is top notch!!!
GOLD STAR GF 100-jd
0 of 0 people found the following review helpfulRoss, got the Gold Star BAB JD model. Can't believe it's that much banjo for $1700! changed to a Sullivan bridge ( I have everybridge known to mankind and it sounded best to my ears). played with head tension and tailpiece height. Banjo is extremely powerful and will only get better as I play it in. I am very seriously considering it for my performing banjo. It's that good. These are the best value in banjos today. PS I have a 1930 TB-3 conversion that i would consider good, not great. The Gold Star is much better right out of the box with a little fiddling.

I received the Gold Star on Friday. I spent most of the weekend and last night with it working on my right hand technique and practicing rolls. Your Banjo Encyclopedia is proving to be very helpful. Also, thanks for the extra DVD's and the CD.
