Bill Schmitz Dec 27, 2017 | Goodtime Special I just wanted to add a few more things to my comments above. As soon as I started using this Goodtime Special my skills seemed to take a big leap forward. It really wasn't my skills, it was the Deering Banjo. My $400 Chinese banjo was the problem. First of all it only has a 1 1/8 inch neck with a 3/4 inch spread for the four long strings. This Deering Goodtime Special has a 1 1/4 inch neck with a 1 inch spread on the four long strings. That extra 1/4 inch added to the spread made a world of difference. I can hit the cords perfect almost everytime now, and with increasing speed. I wish I had bought this Deering Banjo when I first started, but like most of us I bought the $400 kit banjo from the local music store. That was a mistake in my opinion, but when your starting out what do you know?Also it was a real pleasure buying this banjo from Ross. It arrived in perfect condition with no damage at all and he included a lot of free stuff with it, and it wasn't cheap stuff either. He also included some of his books and a DVD in the package. I was kind of apprehensive about buying something like this through the mail, but it wasn't a problem at all. I would not hesitate to purchase a banjo from Ross if your in the market for one. The next banjo on my list is going to be a Deering open-back and I will purchase this from Ross again no problem. |

William Schmit Dec 27, 2017 | Goodtime Special I received the Goodtime Special Ross and I love it. I see now what a tone ring does. The notes sustain much longer and they ring like a harpsichord or something. The best thing though is the neck. I can hit the chords perfect now almost every time. I was having problems with my Chinese banjo. My middle finger kept muting the third string in the C chord. No more though with this Deering. Lots of room for my fingers now. The neck feels a lot better now too. Much easier to fret. Anyway I'm very satisfied. My Nick picks and Bluechip thumb pick came today too so I'm set now. Those Nick Picks feel so nice and fit much better. Shows you get what you pay for. Thanks again Ross! Best Christmas for me in many years! I feel that Christmas magic like when I was 10 years old again! |
