The Deering Eagle II 5-string Banjo with resonator is an excellent bluegrass banjo with lots of punch and if you ever had a need to, it can be easily converted to an open back banjo.
Unlike the one piece flange that is used on most bluegrass banjos, the Eagle two features a two piece flange that can be removed. The flange is the round decorative metal band around the banjo that the resonator is attached to. The flange is used to tighten the head brackets against.
You could take the resonator off a banjo with a one piece flange, but not remove the flange. On the Eagle two, the two piece flange could be removed and the banjo converted to an open back.
The Eagle II banjo represents the latest in tone ring innovation from the collaborative efforts of Greg Deering and Jens Kruger.
It features the ground breaking patented Twenty Ten Tone Ring; a Deering original crafted unlike any other traditional tone ring.
