The Goodtime Blackgrass "Special" features a Deering Flat Head Tone Ring.
The difference between the Blackgrass Special and the standard Blackgrass is the Blackgrass Special features a Deering Goodtime Special flat head tone ring which gives the banjo a brighter and richer tone. This is essentially the same banjo as the Goodtime Artisan Special banjo but with a black stain, black head, and black powder coated hardware.

Seriously, every music store around has it on back order. I’ve owned(pre-owned) the standard Blackgrass w/o tone ring and let me tell you, it makes a world of a difference! It’s a beautiful banjo in person with a beautiful sound to boot. 100% an eye catcher! Every question I had was answered promptly and professionally by Ross and I couldn’t be happier with this beauty. If you’re on the fence about the hardshell case, I promise you, you will never find a new Deering case for that price. The case itself is gorgeous and you can’t beat that new case smell lol
