Ross Nickerson Brief Playing and Teaching Bio

Ross Nickerson is an award winning banjo player with a successful extensive performing, recording, and teaching career behind him. He has performed nationally and internationally and held many banjo workshops abroad as well as at home. He has performed at such notable places as Opryland in Nashville, Tokyo Disneyland, and Silver Dollar City and has won the Telluride Band contest twice.

Ross is the author of best selling banjo book, The Banjo Encyclopedia, “Bluegrass Banjo from A to Z” and has written and recorded over 20 other Banjo Books and DVDs.  As a signed artist with Pinecastle Records, Ross has recorded with many well- known bluegrass artists and appeared on compilation CDs with legends Earl Scruggs, Sonny Osborne and other top contemporary banjo players.
His latest CD on Pinecastle “Lets Kick It” features Ross’s hard driving fast picking style with four members of one of the top US bluegrass bands “Blue Highway”.

From the very beginning of when I started playing banjo I've always enjoyed sharing my knowledge and helping others learn to play the banjo. Through the years of experience I've had, teaching privately, and also traveling all over the US, Canada, Europe and Australia teaching group banjo workshops I’ve gained many unique insights into the common obstacles facing banjo students today. I've listened to my students, seen the challenges they face, understand what students are craving for and always strive to deliver practical, focused instruction in a personable and easy to use manner.

I launched BanjoTeacher.com in 2001 and I offer my many banjo books, DVDs, CDs, Online Videos, advanced banjo dvd videos, intermediate banjo lessons and lots of free resources for banjo students. We have a members only online lesson site and I have been offering banjo lessons online since 2002, even before the advent of YouTube. My business has also grown into a large banjo sales operation featuring pro set up and advice along with offering unique gear and supplies specifically for banjo players.
