Banjo Timing Instruction

Reply to a student reporting on learning timing on banjo and other common hurdles

Thanks for the positive feedback. Banjo timing problems or understanding how to improve your banjo timing can often be solved by learning to count the beats out loud in each measure.  (without playing).

Listen to the CD too and try to hear what you are trying to accomplish without playing at the same time. Count out loud the beats in each measure without whacking away repeatedly over and over with incorrect timing. That can build negative muscle memory and hard habits to break. Take your time, study the tab, learn to count the 1'4 notes and 1/8 notes in each measure out loud and reinforce good timing and technique.

Thanks again,
Sincerely,
Ross Nickerson
