Remo 11 inch LOW Crown banjo head with standard white frosting
This is the frosted remo 11 inch head used on most banjos and what I recommend.
This size is the 11 inch LOW Crown or sometimes called Low Collar head with standard frosting. I've used Remo heads for years and they are the most popular banjo head in the world. They’re known for their bright warm tone, vibration, and sustain.
This is the standard 11 inch to frosted Remo head in the LOW collar. The low crown or "collar" is not the most common but it may be what you need for your banjo.
The Low Crown means its not as deep on the edges. Some banjos don't require a deep setting and the low crown works better. 30 bracket Aluminum pot banjos use 11 inch Low Crown Remo heads.
If you are not sure what size crown to get, I recommend the medium crown, that is the most common. 11 inch is also the most common diameter size and what is used on the vast majority of banjos. Banjos without an 11 inch head are normally antique or specially made.
- 11 inch Low Crown
- Low Crown ("Crown" sometimes is referred to as "Collar")
- Standard frosting for Hoop and
- Flathead Tone Rings and
- aluminum pot banjos.
- Banjos with Archtop tone rings can use a medium or low crown head.
