The Fishman banjo pickup uses a very small thin metal "shim" on the inside of the banjo head just in front of the banjo bridge. It can also be placed under the center foot of the banjo bridge on top of the head. The pickup won't function without it so its not a bad idea to get a spare.
I've been there and lost one, so I made a special effort to make this available to purchase separately as a replacement, or a spare in case you lost yours.
