.......I
just wanted to take the time to let you know that your book Banjo
Song Book is simply incredible, Ive been picking for about
a year now and can play (slowly) nearly every song in it. Your
unique tab system is awesome and much less confusing than some
of the other books, which by the way are collecting dust. When
I break out with Blackberry Blossom, the room seems to go silent
and I feel everybodys eyes on me!
....I just got your Banjo Song
Book today and I love it! I just picked up banjo about four months
ago, and after a summer of intense practice, I must admit I'm
getting pretty darn good pretty darn fast.
.....Hello
Ross,
I thoroughly enjoyed your 'Banjo Songs' instruction book and completed
it over the weekend. Its overall simplicity allows me to play
many of the tunes including 'Foggy M.B.' at your CD performance
tempo. With that under my belt I can now go back and add in some
complications (3-2 pull offs after the 2-3 hammer-ons etc.) that
would have otherwise stagnated my pace and kept me from focusing
on tempo. While most of the 'Songbook' tunes are freely accessible
on the net in tabledit form, they lack the necessary straightforwardness
needed to leap hurdles facing an intermediate player, namely rhythm
and tempo with accuracy. Your book accomplished that for me without
frustration and improved my confidence. It was also motivating
to watch the performance downloads at your website.
I just ordered the Scruggs Style Instruction book from you and
was hoping that someone is around to drop in the mail this afternoon
so I can get started on it later in the week.
...Anyway, having said all of that, your book (already) has made
me "get" how you are supposed to play songs on this
instrument. It has dawned on me that embellishing the melody is
much simpler than I originally thought. For example, I was working
on your "Ballad of Jed Clampett," and the melody notes
just seemed to fly out of my chord formations and chord-based
licks without much effort. It sounds great! As I said, this whole
melody approach, as opposed to just improvising and filling measures
with licks and rolls, is really fun. The fact that I can play
all of those standards and impress the guys in the band and my
friends is just an added bonus. Keep up the great work
